# Publishing to Symbility

> Publish an insurance claim as a Symbility-format PDF for carriers that require it

## Publishing to Symbility

Some carriers run claims on Symbility (now marketed as **Cotality**) rather than Xactimate. XBuild builds the scope from the same Symbility task catalog adjusters work in and publishes through the same [publish wizard](/features/publishing-your-proposal); this page covers what's specific to the Symbility output. The carrier decides the format — an uploaded carrier estimate is the strongest signal.

### 1. What you get, and when

| Deliverable | What it's for |
| ------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Symbility-format PDF** | The estimate in the layout Symbility carriers expect — the carrier deliverable |
| **Full proposal PDF** | The complete XBuild proposal |
| **Shareable web link** | The published claim as a web page |

There is **no Symbility project file** — Symbility has no equivalent of Xactimate's .ESX. Allow **up to 24 hours**, about a business day ([Processing times](/features/processing-times)); set that expectation with your customer up front. Finished documents are **emailed to you** and filed into the project panel's **Documents** section.

### 2. What it costs

The first Symbility publish on a project costs **90 tokens** at the wizard's checkout step; later Symbility publishes on that project are free and skip checkout, and switching to Xactimate is charged at that format's own first-publish rate — see [How tokens work](/plans-billing/how-tokens-work). The publish charge is separate from chat token usage.

### 3. Loss details are required up front

Symbility claim creation needs them before publishing can start, so the wizard's property-details step also collects the **date of loss**, **type of loss**, and **policy and claim numbers**, plus the homeowner name and full address (ZIP required). Fill them into the proposal's claim info section ahead of time and the wizard pre-fills. Missing a date of loss? Get it from the homeowner or carrier paperwork, or publish in Xactimate if the carrier accepts it.

### 4. Switching between Symbility and Xactimate

Switch a project's format in chat at any point. The estimate is **rebuilt in the target catalog**, preserving folder structure and scope intent; items don't map one-to-one, so lines are re-expressed as valid items rather than converted in place — review the rebuilt estimate before publishing. The switch counts as a **first publish in the new format** for tokens.

### 5. Working from a Symbility carrier estimate

Upload the carrier's Symbility estimate PDF to the chat; XBuild extracts the claim header, folder structure, and line pricing so you can supplement it — or reproduce and republish it ([Creating an estimate](/features/creating-an-estimate)).

### 6. Troubleshooting common issues

* **It's been a day and I don't have the documents.** Up to 24 hours by design. Check your email and the project's **Documents** section; if a full day has clearly passed with nothing, contact XBuild Support.
* **Where's the project file?** Symbility publishes don't produce one — the Symbility-format PDF is the carrier deliverable.
* **I republished in Symbility — was I charged again?** No. Only the first Symbility publish on a project carries the charge.
