# Team collaboration

> Coordinate with your team using Team comments and @mentions on any project

## Working with Team comments

Every XBuild project has a **Team comments** panel — a space for you and your teammates to coordinate on the job without leaving the project. Use it to flag what needs attention, hand off next steps, and keep decisions in one place ("@Claire Johnson can confirm this is a concrete wall, will need proper drill bits").

Team comments are internal to your company. Everyone on your team can read and post them, and homeowners never see them — nothing you write here appears on proposals or anything else you share.

### 1. Open Team comments

1. Open any project.
2. Click the **speech bubble with a person inside** in the top right of the project header — it sits next to the Chat and Files toggles.
3. The **Team comments** panel slides in on the right. On a phone, it opens as a full-screen view instead.

The first time you open it you'll see a short explainer with an example comment — post your first comment below it.

### 2. Post a comment and @mention teammates

1. Type in the **Comment for your team** box at the bottom of the panel.
2. To bring a teammate in, type **@** and pick them from the list. Only active members of your team appear.
3. Press **Enter** to post — on a phone, tap the send arrow.

@mention whoever needs to act — mentioned teammates are notified directly, so a handoff never depends on someone happening to check the project.

You can also:

* **Reply** to a comment to keep a topic in one thread.
* **React** with an emoji when a comment just needs an acknowledgment.
* **Delete** your own comments — company admins can delete any comment.

### 3. Comment on a specific photo

Photos carry their own comment threads. Open a photo from the project's photo gallery and add a comment there to discuss exactly what's in the frame — @mention a teammate to get their eyes on it. Photo comments stay attached to that photo and, like all Team comments, are never visible to homeowners — not even in shared photo albums.

### 4. Manage notifications

Choose how you're notified from **Settings → Notifications** — also reachable from the gear icon at the top of the Team comments panel. The comment notifications live under **Comments & mentions**:

* **Direct mentions** — someone @mentions you on a project or photo.
* **Replies in my threads** — replies to comments you posted or threads you're part of.
* **Team comments** — new comments on projects you're on.
* **My photos** — comments on photos you uploaded or commented on.

Each type can arrive in-app or by email. Direct mentions always show in-app, so you never miss a handoff.

The same page also controls notifications about the rest of the project — stage moves, proposals, work orders, payments, and more. See [Notifications](/features/notifications) for the full list and who receives each one.

### 5. Troubleshooting Common Issues

* **Can the homeowner see Team comments?** No. Comments are visible only to people on your XBuild team. They never appear on proposals, shared photo albums, or anything else a homeowner can open.
* **Is Team comments how I contact XBuild?** No — comments go to your own teammates, not to XBuild. For help with XBuild itself, contact XBuild Support at [support@x.build](mailto:support@x.build).
* **A teammate doesn't appear in the @ list.** Only active members of your company show up. Check **Settings → Members** to confirm they've accepted their invite and are still active.
* **I deleted a comment by accident.** Deleted comments can't be restored — post it again if you still need it.
