## XBuild terms, A to Z

Short definitions for the words you'll meet across XBuild and these docs, each linking to the page that covers it in depth.

**ACV (actual cash value)** — a claim's replacement cost minus depreciation. XBuild works in RCV only; ACV and depreciation are managed in the carrier's platform.

**Administrator** — a member role that can change account-wide Settings: billing, connectors, pricing, packages, and team. See [Members and roles](/features/members-and-roles).

**Checklist** — a template of what to look at, photograph, and answer on site; each run yields a shareable report and feeds the AI. See [Checklists](/features/checklists).

**Component package** — a reusable assembly of material, labor, and misc line items (plus optional construction logic) the AI builds retail estimates from. See [Component packages](/features/component-packages).

**Connector** — an account-level link between XBuild and a third-party tool — CRM, photos, supplier pricing, measurements, weather, or accounting. See the [connectors overview](/connectors/overview).

**Contact** — one directory record for a customer, adjuster, or anyone you work with; projects point at it instead of storing details per job. See [Contacts](/platform/contacts).

**Deductible** — the portion of a claim the policyholder pays out of pocket. XBuild doesn't calculate or track deductibles; they're handled on the carrier side.

**Deposit** — the upfront payment a homeowner makes on a signed proposal, collected through XBuild. See [Deposits and getting paid](/features/deposits-and-getting-paid).

**Draft** — the starting state of every new proposal version, before it's published.

**E-signature** — the homeowner's electronic signature on a published proposal, plus any company countersignature your authorization settings require. See [E-signatures and authorization](/features/e-signatures-and-authorization).

**ESX** — the Xactimate project file. An Xactimate-format publish delivers an .ESX you can open and edit in Xactimate. See [Publishing to Xactimate](/features/publishing-xactimate).

**Estimate** — the scope-of-work section of a proposal; retail estimates carry unit prices, margin, and totals, insurance estimates use Xactimate or Symbility. A proposal can hold several.

**Estimate preferences** — company-wide rules for every estimate (scope, waste defaults, brands, documentation tone) under **Settings → Estimation**; package or layout logic wins on conflict. See [Estimate preferences](/features/estimate-preferences).

**Line item** — a single estimate entry (material, labor, or misc) with description, quantity, unit price, margin setting, and total. See [Your Catalog](/features/your-catalog).

**Location** — one physical branch of your company, with its own team members, component packages, layouts, and settings. See [Locations](/features/locations).

**Member** — a person on your company's account. Members run jobs; Administrators also manage Settings and billing. See [Members and roles](/features/members-and-roles).

**O\&P (overhead and profit)** — general-contractor markup on a multi-trade insurance estimate, applied as overhead % plus profit % on the eligible subtotal.

**Project** — the workspace for one job: the chat, photos, documents, and proposals all live in it. One chat per project.

**Project page** — the home screen for a single project, where the estimator, photos, documents, checklists, and proposals live together. See [Projects overview](/platform/projects-overview).

**Proposal** — the versioned, customer- or carrier-facing document a project produces (intro letter, photo galleries, estimates), arranged by a layout; what you publish and send.

**Proposal layout** — the reusable arrangement of sections a proposal is built from; build your own alongside XBuild's defaults. See [Proposal layouts](/features/proposal-layouts).

**Proposal version** — an immutable snapshot of the proposal. Every save creates a new version, so published and signed versions never change underneath you.

**Publish** — the only way to generate a proposal's deliverables: shareable link, PDF, and (for insurance) format-specific files. See [Publishing your proposal](/features/publishing-your-proposal).

**RCV (replacement cost value)** — the full cost to replace damaged property at today's prices. XBuild estimates in RCV.

**Scope** — the list of work on an estimate: the line items, their quantities, and the reasoning behind them.

**Seat** — the right for one person to sign in to your company; every active or invited member occupies one. See [Member seats](/features/member-seats).

**Share link** — a link that shows a published proposal, or selected photos from an [album](/features/albums-and-sharing), without an XBuild login.

**Signer** — anyone whose signature a proposal requires (homeowner, co-signers, company counter-signers), each with their own link and status. See [E-signatures and authorization](/features/e-signatures-and-authorization).

**Supplement** — evidence-backed items or corrections added to a carrier's estimate; also XBuild's post-publish [supplementing service](/features/insurance-supplement-flow), which negotiates the scope with the carrier for you.

**Symbility** — an insurance estimating format (now also known as Cotality); XBuild builds Symbility scopes and delivers a Symbility PDF cut on publish. See [Publishing to Symbility](/features/publishing-symbility).

**Token** — the unit of AI usage: chat turns consume tokens, the first insurance publish per format adds a surcharge; plans include an allowance. See [How tokens work](/plans-billing/how-tokens-work).

**Xactimate** — the industry-standard insurance estimating format. XBuild builds Xactimate scopes and delivers both the PDF cut and the .ESX project file on publish.

**Your Catalog** — all your packages' line items and prices — materials, labor, misc — under **Settings → Item catalog**; the AI builds retail estimates from it. See [Your Catalog](/features/your-catalog).
