Enable and use the Jobber connector

This article explains how to connect XBuild to Jobber and use the two-way sync: pulling client details, property addresses, job files, and photos from Jobber into an XBuild project — and pushing project status, XBuild-generated photos, and documents back onto the linked Jobber job. Jobber is a field-service CRM that a lot of contractors run their business out of, and this connector lets XBuild sit on top as the estimating layer without any double-entry. You must be logged into XBuild as an Administrator to connect Jobber, and you must have an active Jobber account with permission to authorize third-party integrations. Jobber is a Pro Plan Benefit — it’s available on Pro and higher. If you don’t have a Jobber account, you can sign up for one at https://www.getjobber.com/sign-up and follow the prompts.

Why connect Jobber to XBuild?

Most XBuild customers who use Jobber were re-typing addresses, downloading job files, uploading them into XBuild, and then messaging the office manager with a status update. The connector removes every one of those steps.
  • Start or enrich a project from a Jobber Job. Link a Jobber Job from a blank chat to start a new XBuild project pre-filled with the client and property details, or link a Jobber Job to a project you already have — no re-keying either way.
  • Pull photos and documents. Job photos and attached documents from Jobber are pulled into the linked project’s files, ready to use in estimates and proposals.
  • Push status back. Project progress in XBuild is pushed back onto the Jobber job so your team sees a single, up-to-date view in the tools they already use.
  • Photos and documents sync both ways. XBuild-created assets (estimate PDFs, proposals, generated photos) sync back onto the Jobber job, provenance-filtered so nothing duplicates itself in a loop.
  • One OAuth handshake, no API keys. Jobber authenticates over OAuth — XBuild never sees your Jobber password, and you can revoke access from Jobber’s connected-apps settings at any time.

1. Connect Your Jobber Account

The Jobber connector uses Jobber’s secure OAuth 2.0 flow.
  1. In XBuild, navigate to Settings → Connectors.
  2. Under Workflow, click Jobber.
  3. On the Jobber connector detail page, click + Add connection.
  4. The New Jobber connection modal opens. Click Connect. A new secure window opens and redirects you to the Jobber login page.
  5. Enter your Jobber username and password on Jobber’s site.
  6. Review the permissions XBuild is requesting — reading clients, photos, and documents, and updating job status — then click Allow or Authorize.
  7. You’ll be redirected back to XBuild. The Connections section now shows a green ● Connected indicator with your Jobber account.
You can remove the connection at any time by clicking the × on the connection row. Removing the connection stops all pull and push activity between XBuild and Jobber; existing linked projects keep their data but stop receiving updates. Only one Jobber account per workspace is supported in v1.
Multiple XBuild Locations
Jobber is connected at the Location level, following the same pattern as XBuild’s other connectors. Each Location can map to its own dedicated Jobber account, or multiple Locations can share a single Jobber account — whichever matches how your business bills.
  • Separate accounts per Location. Switch into each Location and run through the OAuth flow above using that Location’s Jobber credentials.
  • One shared account across Locations. Authorize the same Jobber credentials on each Location’s Connectors page. Every Location will read and write to the same Jobber account.
New Locations don’t inherit Jobber connections from other Locations — remember to connect Jobber for each one that needs to link to a Jobber job. Once Jobber is connected, you can link a Jobber Job or Request to an XBuild project directly from the chat prompt. You have two paths:
  • From a blank chat — starting the link creates a new XBuild project pre-filled with the Jobber client’s contact and property details.
  • From an existing XBuild project — the Jobber Job is attached to the project you’re already in. The project’s existing name and address stay put; the Jobber link is added on top so status and new assets can flow back to the Jobber Job.
In Jobber, work is tracked as either a Request (an initial lead or inquiry) or a Job (confirmed work you’re delivering). XBuild’s Sync from Jobber picker surfaces both — the rest of this article uses “Job” to mean either, since the linking flow is identical for a Request and a Job.
Open the Sync Picker
  1. From the chat prompt, click the + button.
  2. Select Sync from Jobber from the menu (subtitle: “No project selected” when no Jobber Job is currently linked to the chat).

Choose a Job
  1. Use the Search by name, number, or address… field to find a specific Jobber Job or Request. Search hits Jobber directly, so you can find any Job or Request on your account — not just the most recent.
  2. Each row shows the record name, its Jobber number, the client’s name, the date it was last updated, and the property address (for example, “Bathroom Renovation · #1 · Mr. Dennis Rodman · Today” with the address on the line below).
  3. Click the row for the Job or Request you want to link.
The modal switches to the file-and-photo picker for that Job or Request.
Import Files and Photos
Two tabs separate the record’s content:
  • Files — documents attached in Jobber (PDFs, DOCX, XLSX, and so on). Each file shows the file type, size, and date added.
  • Photos — photos attached in Jobber, displayed as a thumbnail grid.
To choose what to import:
  1. Click the Files tab to review available documents, or Photos to review available images. The badge next to each tab shows how many items are available.
  2. Click any file or photo to select it. Selected items are checkmarked.
  3. Use Select all in the top right to grab everything in that tab at once, or Deselect all to clear your selection.
  4. Switch between Files and Photos to select from both — your selections on each tab are preserved when you switch.
  5. The footer shows a running count (for example, “4 selected (3 photos · 1 doc)”).
  6. When you’re done, click Import job & [N] files in the bottom right.
If you decide not to import anything, close the modal — you can reopen it from the + menu anytime the chat isn’t already linked to a Jobber Job or Request.
What Happens When You Link
Clicking Import job & [N] files does the following:
  • The Jobber Job or Request is linked to your XBuild project.
    • From a blank chat — XBuild creates a new project using the Jobber client and property details. The project header shows the client’s name (for example, “Mr. Dennis Rodman”) and the property address (for example, “123 Di Salvo Avenue, San Jose, California, 95128”) — no re-typing.
    • From an existing project — the Jobber link is added to the project you’re already in. The project’s existing name and address stay put; nothing is overwritten.
  • A “Jobber job linked” card posts to the chat with a green checkmark, the record name, and the property address. This is your permanent breadcrumb back to Jobber for the linked record.
  • The selected files and photos are attached to the chat’s compose area as a single chip (for example, “Bathroom Renovation · 4 files”). File thumbnails also appear inline in the chat thread with size and filename.
  • The two-way sync activates. From here on, XBuild will push status and new assets back to the linked Jobber Job or Request (see Section 3).
  • The AI starts reading the context. The AI acknowledges the linked record and files (“Thinking…”) and is ready for your prompt — for example, “Build a bathroom remodel proposal from these photos and the insurance scope.”
To unlink the Jobber Job from the current draft before submitting your prompt, click the × on the chip in the compose area. That removes the link from the chat; any project already in place stays intact.

3. Push Status, Photos, and Documents Back to Jobber

The connector is two-way. Once a Jobber Job or Request is linked to an XBuild project, XBuild pushes updates back to that record automatically — so the office manager watching Jobber sees the same state you do.
Status Updates on the Jobber Job
Every time your XBuild project’s status changes (draft, sent, viewed, signed, and so on), XBuild writes that status onto the linked Jobber record through Jobber’s custom-field mechanism:
  • A Link custom field on the Jobber record points at the XBuild project. Your team can click straight from Jobber into the live XBuild project.
  • A Status text field on the Jobber record shows the current XBuild project status, refreshed in near-real-time as the project moves.
Your team can build Jobber views and reports off those fields just like any other Jobber data — no manual copying.
Photos and Documents Sync Back to Jobber
When you add XBuild-created photos, generated documents, or signed proposals to the linked project, they’re pushed back onto the Jobber Job or Request so everything is available in whichever tool your team is looking at.
  • Only XBuild-native assets sync back. Files and photos that came from Jobber originally aren’t sent back — a provenance filter prevents duplicates. This means the Jobber record’s file list won’t fill up with copies of the same PDF.
  • Push is one-way for creates. Deleting a file in XBuild doesn’t delete it in Jobber, and editing metadata in Jobber doesn’t rename the asset in XBuild. Treat each system as the source of truth for its own edits.

4. Troubleshooting Common Issues

  • Sync from Jobber is missing from the chat + menu. The connector isn’t connected for the active Location. Open Settings → Connectors → Jobber and click + Add connection to run through the OAuth flow. Jobber must be active in the Location you’re working from before it appears in the chat picker.
  • The Sync from Jobber picker is empty or a record I know exists doesn’t appear in search. Search queries Jobber directly, so an empty result means either the Jobber account doesn’t have that Job or Request, or the OAuth permissions didn’t include read access. Reconnect from Settings → Connectors → Jobber — disconnect and re-authorize to re-grant scopes.
  • I only see Jobs in the picker but I know I have Requests too (or vice versa). The picker surfaces both Jobs and Requests. If one type is missing entirely, the OAuth scope may not include it — disconnect and reconnect to re-authorize the full read scope.
  • I authorized Jobber but XBuild says “Connect Jobber” again. The OAuth window may have been blocked by a popup blocker, or you closed it before completing the redirect. Allow popups for your XBuild domain and try again from Settings → Connectors → Jobber → + Add connection.
  • The property address on my project doesn’t match Jobber. If XBuild created the project when you linked from a blank chat, the address flows from the Jobber client’s property record at the time of link. Fix it in Jobber, then either edit the project address directly in XBuild or unlink and re-link the record. If you linked to an existing project, XBuild keeps that project’s existing address — Jobber’s address doesn’t overwrite.
  • My XBuild status isn’t showing up on the Jobber job. Status updates write to a Jobber custom field on the linked record. Confirm the custom-field configuration is enabled in your Jobber account (Jobber’s Connect plan is required for custom-field access). If your plan supports it and the field still isn’t updating, disconnect and reconnect the Jobber connector to re-register the custom fields.
  • I edited a file in XBuild but Jobber still shows the old version. Push-back is one-way for creates. Deleting or editing an XBuild asset doesn’t propagate. If you need Jobber to reflect the change, either re-upload manually in Jobber or delete the asset in Jobber and let the next XBuild push resync it.
  • I want to sync a second Jobber account to the same Location. Not supported in v1 — only one Jobber account per Location. Use separate Locations if you need to keep multiple Jobber accounts distinct.
  • I disconnected Jobber. What happens to my linked projects? Projects and files that were already imported stay in XBuild. New pulls and pushes stop until you reconnect. When you reconnect, previously linked projects reactivate their push channel automatically.
  • I’m on the Standard plan and don’t see Jobber as a connector. Jobber is a Pro Plan Benefit. Upgrade to Pro or higher from Settings → Billing to unlock it.
