Organizing and annotating photos
Tags group photos by area so you and the AI know what’s where, markup points at the exact problem in the frame, and titles and descriptions say what each photo shows — written by AI, editable by you. This page covers all three on the mobile app.1. Capture tags: tag before you shoot
In the camera, open the tag picker and choose the tags for the area you’re about to shoot — “Roof” and “North slope.” From then on, every photo you take carries those tags automatically. The active tags show as chips over the preview: tap a chip’s X to drop that tag from the next shot onward, or reopen the picker to change or clear the set. Work a site area by area and the album arrives pre-organized.2. Your own tags
The picker’s tags are grouped by category. Type a label that doesn’t exist and create it as a custom tag, under an existing category or a new one you name. Custom tags join your tag library — “Detached garage,” “Pool cage” — for next time.3. Editing tags later
Every surface that shows a photo’s details — the viewer, the info sheet, the edit screen — has an Add tag / Edit tags row that opens the same picker. Capture tags apply from the moment they’re set; earlier photos need tagging here. Once tagged, the album’s Filter shows only “Roof,” only “Siding,” or any combination. See Albums and sharing.4. Open any photo and enter markup mode.
Pick a color and stroke width for each, with undo/redo. Annotations save with the photo — teammates see them, and they show wherever the photo is shared. Select a stroke later to move or delete it. Videos can’t be marked up. Markup works the same in the web app.
5. Crop and rotate
From the same editing surface, crop a photo or rotate it in 90° turns. Cropping replaces the photo’s pixels everywhere it appears and clears its annotations, since existing markup wouldn’t line up. Crop first, mark up second.6. Titles and descriptions
When a photo finishes scanning (✨), the AI writes a short title and a description — materials, damage, context. Descriptions feed the AI when it builds your scope and are the text a homeowner sees under photos on shared albums and proposals. The rules match the web: one description per photo, your edit replaces the AI’s and is protected if AI descriptions are later cleared, and videos never get one. You can dictate a description with the microphone, and photos carry a separate internal note field (videos can take a note too). - My capture tags stopped applying. A chip was removed with its X. Reopen the tag picker and re-select it.
- A tag I created isn’t on old photos. Capture tags apply from when they’re set — tag earlier photos from their Edit tags row.
- My markup disappeared after cropping. Expected — a crop clears annotations. Redo the markup on the cropped photo.
- A photo has no title or description. It probably hasn’t finished scanning — look for ✨. Videos never get them, and cleared descriptions aren’t rewritten. See Photo descriptions.
- Where did the AI text go after I edited a description? One description per photo; your edit wins and the AI’s wording isn’t kept alongside it.
