Topping up tokens
A top-up is a one-time token purchase for usage spikes. Tokens are charged to your payment method on file and land in your balance immediately. You must be an XBuild Administrator to buy tokens; auto-refill makes the same purchase automatically when your balance runs low.1. Buy tokens
- Open Billing — from the main navigation, or under Settings.
- Click Top up tokens on the plan card.
- In the Get more tokens dialog, switch to the Top up tab. (It opens on Upgrade plan — see step 3.)
- Choose a Top up quantity — 50 to 1,000 tokens, in steps of 50. Your plan sets the price per token, shown on the Billing tab as “$X per additional token.”
- Click Buy [N] tokens — $[total]. The charge goes to your default payment method; a confirmation shows the tokens added and the amount charged.
2. What you get
Top-up tokens appear right away as their own Top Up grant in the balance bar, valid for 1 month from purchase regardless of your billing cycle — point to the segment for the exact expiry date. Transactions records the purchase; the row opens the invoice (Invoices and receipts). XBuild spends soonest-expiring tokens first, so a mid-cycle top-up is used before plan allowance. For plan-token expiry and grant rules, see How tokens work.3. Top-up or upgrade?
Upgrading gives more tokens every month at a lower price per token, plus more member seats — if you top up regularly, it’s almost always cheaper (Pricing plans). A top-up is right when the need is a one-off, you’re already on the highest self-service tier, or you want tokens this minute without changing your subscription.4. Troubleshooting common issues
- I don’t see the Top up tokens button. Buying tokens is admin-only; Members see the balance without the purchase actions.
- The purchase failed with a payment method error. No default payment method is on file, the card was declined, or your default is ACH. Add or update a card in Settings → Wallet and try again.
- My top-up tokens disappeared. They last 1 month from purchase. Point to the grant in the balance bar for its dates, and check Transactions for spent versus expired.
